Our Experience with Sensira Riviera Maya

We visited the resort a few days after it officially opened, and it was love at first sight! Everything is just beautiful, and the amenities they offer are top-notch. This resort instantly became one of our favorites in the area, and we can’t wait to show you around and help you plan your wedding here. We are confident you will love it as much as we do!

Pros and cons of the Sensira Riviera Maya

PROS

• The hotel opened in 2021, so it’s still very new, and everything is pristine and shiny.
• Kids of any age can really go WILD with the incredible activities available. Plus, the kids and teens club closes at 9 pm, giving you the perfect time for a romantic dinner à deux.
• Guests will find a sophisticated dining experience comparable to that of fine-dining restaurants in major international cities.
• There is only one wedding per day, so you can be certain the staff will give your event their full attention.

CONS

• Honestly, the beach is not particularly interesting here, not as deep blue or clear as other areas nearby; however, coral reefs are super close, making it ideal for fishing trips or snorkeling tours.
• We sincerely hope it doesn’t rain on your wedding day, as your only backup option is the ballroom. It is huge and beautiful, but it’s the only option.

Rooms and Sections

Rooms are named after precious stones, reflecting the luxurious materials and exclusive amenities they offer. The modern Mexican decor will make you feel right at home in your own beach residence, with elegant wooden furniture, beautiful handmade textiles, and folk art pieces throughout. A tasteful delight.

Sapphire family rooms are huge accommodations that can fit 5 to 7 guests in extra-large suites with bunk beds, separated from the main room with a curtain for a little privacy, but still able to keep an eye on the young travelers.

The adults-only Amber section provides the ultimate relaxation with a hydro-massage tub, beautiful ocean views, personalized butler service, and access to the exclusive Bar Lounge.

The Beach

Sensira Riviera Maya is located at Bahia Petempich in Puerto Morelos, a laid-back, low-key Caribbean town where fishermen still bring the catch of the day to local restaurants and divers go to discover underground wonders at the reef just ashore.

The conditions of the water, sand, and reef can sometimes make the water look different from the Caribbean beaches you might expect. Anyways, the water is perfect for a refreshing swim, and the beach is long enough for a brisk morning walk or a romantic promenade at sunset.

Food & Drinks

Foodies at heart will be delighted with the sophistication and variety of each restaurant’s menu. Try the international buffet-style dining room, or exquisite Italian dishes, order some Mexican specialties, grab a quick bite at the casual snack bar, or pass by the tea house for some sweet treats.

If you are in the mood to see a show or perhaps give a show, you must visit Rodeo Grill steakhouse, where guests are encouraged to ride a mechanical bull for everyone’s entertainment. Just remember to do it BEFORE you have dinner!

For a more refined and sophisticated experience, Galerie Des Sens is an adults-only, intimate, refined restaurant inspired by the Louvre Museum, where Parisian specialties and fine wines are served.

For drinks, a lobby and beach bar are available to serve refreshments. Serendipity bar is the place to go for board games and enjoy the entertainment provided by the staff, and Knights English pub is the spot to spend some time with the gentlemen, play a few poker hands, and watch the game.

”Boring” is not a word you will think about during your stay at Sensira Riviera Maya. They have virtually everything and anything you could think of to have a great time with the whole family, your partner, or by yourself.

With many special areas designed for specific age groups, you can be confident your kids will be able to choose the type of activities they want to do, whether it’s expressing themselves artistically in a painting class, jumping through the air on the trampolines, or watching a movie at the cinema.

You can even go extreme at the climbing wall and the zip line across the pool area! → Riviera Junior Suites – These rooms feature either two double beds or one king bed with a bunk bed that sleeps three, making them ideal for families of up to five. They’re referred to as SuperSaver rooms. While they’re located the furthest from the beach, this area offers its own pools, restaurants, and bars for added convenience.

The resort is separated into a few different sections:

• Golf: If you are looking for an all-inclusive resort that includes some golf. Book an Inspira Suite and get free rounds!
• Entertainment: You will be immersed in culinary, sporting, relaxing, and artistic events at Atelier Playa Mujeres. Let yourself be surprised by everything this resort has to offer!

CONS

• Inspira Room Location: Some Inspira rooms are the furthest from the beach. They all have stunning views, but are located off the main lobby
• That’s about the only con we could think of! We seriously love this resort.

The hotel is L-shaped, with the ‘regular’ rooms on the long part of the L, closer to the lobby. In this section, you have the junior suites, the swim-up rooms, and the rooftop suites. Depending on the room’s location, you may or may not have ocean views.

The Inspira rooms are located in two different areas. In the long part of the L-shape, but closest to the beach area, and in the small part of the L next to the lobby.

All decor is inspired by Mexican art, reinvented in a chic and elegant way. With luxurious amenities and thoughtful details, you will enjoy Molton Brown amenities, marble accents, local wooden furniture, an upscale mini bar, and much more.

How is The Beach at Atelier Playa Mujeres?

Since Playa Mujeres has a limited number of hotels and the hotel is bordered by the golf course on one side, the expanse of beach available to the hotel and its guests is enormous.

The beach is wide; you can walk for miles, and it is fairly deserted, aside from the hotel guests.

Food & Drinks

9 restaurants! NINE. From ocean-view dining at Suspiro to the Steakhouse, Asian, Brazilian, Italian, and gourmet taco options, you will have plenty to delight every craving.

The Maria Dolores Restaurant is the only restaurant not included in the all-inclusive package. Celebrity Chef Edgar Nuñez offers exclusive signature dishes at this avant-garde culinary restaurant.

For the bars, you have 8 bars to choose from a swim-up bar to a traditional Mexican cantina. All serving top-shelf liquors.

We’ve visited the property, stayed several times, and even planned a few weddings here. Every single time, we’ve found the grounds to be impeccably maintained, the service warm and friendly, and the location unbeatable – definitely to consider and will make a lasting impression on your guests.

Pros and Cons

PROS

• This resort is a celebrity favorite, with many special stories to tell. The Stones nightclub was named after the Rolling Stones’ visit, so you can party where rockstars once did – move like Jagger! Another great anecdote to tell your guests: On December 18th, 1983, Keith Richards married Patti Hansen here, with Mick Jagger as the best man. You can even see the copper coffee machine they used for their reception at the Cupcake shop.
• If you’re planning a kid-friendly wedding, some accommodations have a maximum capacity of 5 guests, allowing families to stay together in the same room.
• The Spa Del Mar offers terrific treatments for brides, offering pre-wedding pampering with facials, massages, and beauty services to ensure you feel your best on your big day.

Cons

• Sandos Finisterra has been a staple in the area since 1970, making it one of the first resorts ever built in the region. While it offered top-notch comforts for its time, it may not compare to newer, more contemporary properties.
• Rooms are very spacious, but also are more on the simpler side regarding amenities and decor. Although they are currently being refreshed.
• The beach at Sandos Finisterra is enormous, but the strong currents make it unsafe for swimming. However, it’s still a beautiful display of nature’s power and beauty, offering a magnificent spectacle to enjoy from the shore.
  
• There is hardly any shade in the pool areas. A few umbrellas and palm trees, and that’s it. Hats and sunscreen are a must!

• Junior Suites offer either 1 king-size bed or two double beds, accommodating up to 3 adults and 2 children, or 2 adults and 3 children. From the spacious balconies, you can enjoy a full or partial ocean view.

• Deluxe Marina Rooms are conveniently located near the restaurants and spa areas, offering easy access to all the activities during the day and night, along with sweeping views of the marina bay area.

• Finisterra Suites are located in the original historic section of the resort, carved into the mountain and perched over a cliff, offering unique views of the marina or partial ocean views. Some suites feature an indoor jacuzzi, while the Finisterra Casitas offer a relaxing outdoor jacuzzi, perfect for soaking in the surroundings. Occupancy varies from 3 to 7 guests in combination with adults and children. These rooms provide access to an exclusive VIP pool area with a bar and views of the city.

The Beach

The Sandos Finisterra beach is a stunning location, ideal for admiring the crashing waves and taking long walks along the sand. However, it’s important to note that the strong currents make it unsafe for swimming.

There are other nearby beaches perfect for swimming, so you can easily enjoy a dip if you’d like. Playa Empacadora, or “Cannery Beach,” is just a 10-minute walk from the hotel lobby, perfect for a quick dip into the ocean.

Whether you’re unwinding to the sound of crashing waves, enjoying a romantic beach walk, or simply relaxing on the sand, you’re sure to have a fantastic time even if swimming isn’t an option on your big day!

Food & Drinks

We really enjoyed the wide variety of restaurants and food options. Special mention to Don Diego, where you can indulge in fresh fruit, cold cuts, and delicious traditional Mexican dishes. There’s nothing quite like starting the day with huevos a la mexicana to set the tone. Am I right? We also have the Tortuga Beach casual dinner food restaurant. Great spot for casual dining, just like its name indicates.

For dinner, you have four fantastic options to choose from. Emiliano’s Osteria serves up classic Italian specialties, while Agave Palapa offers international dishes and mouthwatering steaks. If you’re in the mood for something gourmet, head to Tortuga Beach for exquisite bistro-style dishes.

For those with a sweet tooth, Cupcake Cafeteria is open daily, serving up the best cupcakes, brownies, paninis, and specialty coffees. Plus, room service is available 24/7, free of charge, to bring all your favorites right to your door!

• Staying at this resort will make you feel like a little kid all over again – it’s all about endless fun and playfulness.
• The resort is brand new, and it definitely feels that way. The rooms and amenities are spotless and incredibly fresh.
• We’re big fans of the outdoor gym! It’s the little details like this that really make the resort stand out.

CONS
• If you’re seeking a more demure resort, this might not be the one for you. It’s truly – and we mean truly eccentric. A better option nearby would be Atelier Playa Mujeres.
• The beach isn’t a long stretch of white sand, but rather a series of smaller bays, so if you’re envisioning a long romantic stroll along the shore, this may not be the setting for that.
• This resort offers stunning beach venues, including a beautiful main strand and a more private, smaller one. However, the Golden Hour bar has an uneven surface, which may be inconvenient for receptions, and the Sky Bar has limited access, making it more challenging for large floral arrangements or guests with mobility issues.

Captivate Swim Out Suite – There are so many fantastic room options at SLS Playa Mujeres, but we absolutely loved the Swim Out Suite. The video below really showcases how great it is!

The Rooftop Suite is another absolute showstopper at this resort. With breathtaking panoramic views, this suite offers a luxurious and spacious setting, complete with elegant décor and high-end amenities.

Beach

The white sand and turquoise waters at Playa Mujeres are truly stunning, perhaps among the finest on Mexico’s Caribbean coast. However, the beach is not a continuous stretch of white sand; instead, it consists of several smaller bays. So, if you’re hoping for a long, romantic walk along the shore, this might not be the ideal spot.

Food

We really enjoyed the wide variety of food at the resort – there’s something to satisfy every taste. One standout was our lunch at Twiggy Restaurant in the Adults-Only section, which was absolutely exquisite. The octopus ceviche and shrimp tacos were unforgettable.

The Dreams resort is part of the AM Resorts chain of hotels that promise unlimited luxury. It did not disappoint.

It is a family-friendly hotel, and we’ve been there quite a few times. Our teenagers were impressed by the teens´ club and the variety of games and sports, the room service, and the friendliness of the staff.

We are always impressed by the food (wow, the food!), and the service was AMAZING. Additionally, I have to mention that the last time we were there, it was the American Thanksgiving, and despite the hotel being at 100% capacity, the team there was attentive and had planned ahead to make things run as efficiently as possible.

Dreams Playa Mujeres is located 35 minutes from Cancun International Airport, in the exclusive Playa Mujeres residential and resort community.

Just a short ride from the resort, you will have access to the Cancun Hotel Zone and the main points of interest in the city.

This is one of our top-selling resorts in the area! And it’s very easy to know why. Besides its beautiful beach, spacious rooms, wonderful amenities, and wedding locations, the staff is warm and attentive, and goes out of their way to make your stay memorable.

Our wedding groups are very satisfied with this resort, and, frankly, so are we!

Pros and Cons of Dreams Playa Mujeres

PROS:

• The resort is huge! You will always have a spot to relax and have a good time without feeling crowded and super busy.
• Food options are aplenty. You will not get bored eating at the many delicious restaurants here.
• The beach is amazing. Just like at most resorts in the Playa Mujeres area.
• Kids and teens will have a blast during their stay at the incredible water park, the kids’ and teens’ club.

CONS:

• The resort is so popular for weddings that there is barely any availability. You need to book as soon as possible to secure a wedding date and a room block!
• For those wanting to leave the resort and explore the town, it may become tiresome to go back and forth after a few days.
• There is a dolphin swim facility on site. This can be a pro or a con depending on your own preferences, but anyone who has an issue with animals in captivity will not want to stay here.

Rooms and Sections

The rooms were super spacious, and with the two teen boys, we even had connecting rooms, which made the stay that much easier. One of the perks of this job is that we often visit and stay at hotels. The downside is that I am not easily impressed. The Dreams Playa Mujeres left us wanting a much longer stay, which does not happen all that often.

The Preferred Club offers elevated services and amenities, exclusive dining venues, a lounge with premium drinks, complimentary access to the Spa’s hydrotherapy area, and access to the lazy river at the Villa Section. The villas offer expansive areas with a kitchenette and dining area, a jacuzzi on the terrace, and gorgeous views of the property and the beach.

The Beach at Dreams Playa Mujeres

All resorts in the Playa Mujeres and Costa Mujeres area have an incredibly large and beautiful beach, and Dreams Playa Mujeres is no exception.

The waters are calm and deep blue. The best part is that seaweed barely hits this zone, so it’s pretty clear the whole year.

Food & Drinks

6 restaurants and 12 bars will surely satisfy all your cravings. Find a Brazilian Steakhouse, Japanese and French cuisine, Mediterranean, and Mexican, an international buffet, a salad and wrap place, grilled snacks, and my favorite, a super cute coffee shop with top tea and coffee, and all-you-can-eat gelato and desserts.

Regarding drinks, you will always find a bar within a few steps. They have one everywhere! At the lazy river, the lobby, the main pool, two swim-up bars, the beach, at the theatre to enjoy the shows, and also they have two non-alcoholic bars to make kids and teens delicious mocktails and smoothies.

Activities, Sports, and Kids Club

Dreams Playa Mujeres really has everything to keep the whole family entertained. If you are looking to continue with your fitness routine, you can enjoy beach volleyball, tennis, aqua fitness, yoga, and a state-of-the-art gym.

Kids and teens will have their own adventures with video games, crafts, treasure hunts, bonfires, and much more. The staff will keep them supervised, entertained, and happy during your stay. Did we mention there is a kids’ pool with a complete waterpark with thrilling slides?!

Exchange Privileges

Adults will have access to Secrets Playa Mujeres next door. You could enjoy the restaurants and pool areas if you want a slight change of scenery. Also, you could spend the evening at nearby Dreams Vista Cancun or Dreams Sands, just make sure to make your reservation with the concierge once you are at the property.

One of the amazing benefits of having the adults-only Secrets Playa Mujeres right next door is the exchange program you have access to. Therefore, you can stay at Dreams, and as long as you are 18+, you can use the facilities at the Secrets!

Promotions for Dreams Playa Mujeres Weddings

Dreams Playa Mujeres offers a free destination wedding. This package is called “Wedding in Paradise” and essentially includes a free wedding ceremony for up to 10 guests with a basic setup, sparkling wine, and wedding cake. You can add more guests if you have more than 10 for a minimal cost per extra guest.

To get the package for free, you can book a preferred club junior suite ocean view or higher for at least 7 nights, or have the equivalent of 15 room nights in that category or higher (your group books 5 rooms for 3 nights each). If you do not have the required room nights, the package price starts at $1,499, depending on the season.

You need to consider that the ceremony times for the free packages tend to be allocated earlier in the day, so chances are your ceremony will be scheduled at 11 am or 1 pm. You can also use this package as a vow renewal. For smaller, more intimate wedding groups or if you just really want to have the ceremony or vow renewal and celebrate elsewhere (a catamaran trip is always fun), this is a great option and a good way to keep your destination wedding costs down.

Dreams Playa Mujeres Wedding Locations

Paramount Suite

The Paramount Suite is another great option for a private destination wedding venue. You need to reserve the Paramount Suite for a minimum of two nights, and you can use it for up to two wedding events. The stunning ocean-view rooftop area accommodates 60 guests for the wedding ceremony, cocktail, and reception. Again, despite being private, we do need to check wedding availability prior to reserving the suite.

Beach area for Weddings

The beach area can be used for wedding ceremonies, cocktail hours, and reception dinners, accommodating up to 300 guests.

The curfew for the beach areas depends on the season: from April to November, no light is permitted after a certain time, as it is turtle season, and this interferes with the laying/hatching process.
Therefore, from May 1st through November 30th, the curfew is until 9 pm; however, from December 1st through April 30th, the events can continue until 11 pm.

Wedding Gazebo

This area has a capacity of 150 guests. You can use the nearby beach area for the cocktail hour and reception dinner.

Ocean Front Presidential Suite

The use of the Ocean Front Presidential Suite for your wedding events requires a minimum 3-night reservation. This suite is not available for general reservations on any website. If you need availability or rates, let us know, and we can help. Although this wedding venue is completely private, we also need to check wedding and suite availability to ensure the team is available for your big day.

This area has a capacity of 80 people for the ceremony and cocktail hour. If you have been searching for an option that allows for a platform over the pool for your ceremony, this is it. The reception in the Presidential Suite can host 60 guests on the main terrace or 30 guests if you prefer the rooftop area.

Central Garden Wedding Platform

This gorgeous and ample area is a fantastic option for large wedding groups. With a capacity of up to 350 for the reception and cocktail event, it is spacious and accommodating. Please note that the minimum number of guests required here for a reception dinner is 70.

Ballroom

If you want a wedding venue where you can continue to party until the wee hours, the ballroom is your best option. This area can host up to 250 guests or has the possibility to be separated into smaller sections for smaller wedding groups. This location is also used as a backup location.

Mermaid Terrace

The Mermaid Terrace is conveniently located in the center of the main courtyard area. This area can be used for cocktail hours for groups of 150 or reception events for up to 70 guests.

Pool Terrace

There are two pool terrace areas on either side of the pool, closest to the beach. The pool terrace is available after 6 pm for a reception dinner. It can fit up to 8 round tables, so the capacity is capped at 70 guests.

Cove Terrace

This area can be used for cocktail hours for up to 80 guests and receptions for up to 40 guests.

Azure Veranda

Seeking an ocean-view wedding reception with air conditioning? This is it. The Azure Veranda has enough space for 100 guests, a dance floor, and yes, offers A/C! The Azure Veranda is also used as a backup location.

• The Backup Venue is a fantastic option in case of unexpected weather. It’s not your typical ballroom – which can sometimes lack charm – instead, it’s an open-air space with a roof, easily adaptable to your wedding needs and guest count, while still maintaining that tropical atmosphere.
• We love the tech touches at the resort -cleaning robots cruise around the buffet restaurant, helping to bring plates to the tables. It’s a fun and innovative way to enhance the dining experience and will surely amuse the little and big kids!
• The Alegria Spa is truly divine. You can access a private pool with panoramic views of the ocean to relax before your big day. It’s a haven of tranquility as the slogan proudly states – peace begins here.
• We love the concept of the Quinta Avenida – right in the heart of the resort, the resort has recreated the famous shopping street in Playa Del Carmen. Beach

The beach at Sandos Caracol is long and lined with soft sand, perfect for romantic walks at sunset. You can even stroll all the way to Playa del Carmen, which takes about an hour.

Rooms & Sections

→ Standard rooms: are the most basic but also the least expensive. They do not include room service, or Wi-Fi in the room, and tend to be the ones in the far back of the property. It is very budget friendly, that said, you cannot expect a 5-star service at that price. If you are accustomed to swankier hotels, definitely pay the extra and get the Royal Elite.

→ Eco-Family rooms : are more modern, have rooms service, Wi-Fi and all come with a king bed and bunk beds. Families of 5 will wanting to share only one room will want to choose either the Eco Family Suite or the Eco Family Penthouse.

→ The Pool View Section: these rooms have upgraded amenities, a VIP bracelet allowing access to extra services, and upgraded bars. All adults 18+ in the Pool View Section, also have access to the Select Club areas.
